Dr. Knotts received his undergraduate degree in journalism with a minor in biochemistry and honors in organic chemistry. He graduated with highest honors, the distinction of having the highest GPA in his graduating college, a perfect 4.0. While working as a newspaper editor, his writing and photography were each awarded first place finishes at annual professional press association conferences for two consecutive years.
Dr. Knotts was then granted early admission to medical school at the University of New Mexico, and during his time there received awards for his research on facial reconstruction after gunshot wounds and was nominated for various academic distinctions and societies. A passion for cycling developed while in medical school and he completed his first 100-mile century ride.
After medical school, he was accepted into one of the most competitive surgical programs in the nation, an accelerated 5-year residency in General and Plastic Surgery. During residency, he was voted as chairman of the residency council, continued publishing multiple plastic surgery articles on reconstructive surgery, and completed the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon. After graduating residency, Dr. Knotts completed one of a handful of ASAPS-endorsed fellowships in Aesthetic and Cosmetic Surgery. During fellowship, his academic pursuits continued with articles published on arm lifting and liposuction and book chapters published on various body contouring topics, including the fleur-de-lis abdominoplasty and the bra-line back lift.
As an associate at Austin-Weston, a large private-practice group of plastic surgeons devoted to cosmetic surgery, Dr. Knotts has published articles on thigh lifting and liposuction and lectured on the topic of around-the-mouth surgery at the annual meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. He placed third in his category at his first triathlon in 2015.
Dr. Knotts practice is devoted largely to cosmetic surgery. He performs surgery on the face, breast, and body and also performs minimally invasive procedures. He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and The National Capital Society of Plastic Surgeons. His group practice was nominated Best of DC, Best of NoVA and Best of Virginia for multiple consecutive years and has received the distinction of Top 1% of practices nationwide as an Allergan Black Diamond facility.

I have read that, as we age, the fat pads in our upper cheeks descend. Can an older patient detect where the fat pads in his/her cheeks are now simply by looking in the mirror? If so, how? Do both fat pads descend at the same rate? How can a patient know if he/she needs a mid-facelift without consulting a plastic surgeon?
Can your consultation with the patient be private (i.e., no one else present)?
Do you have photographs (before and after) of mid-facelift patients of yours that can be viewed by prospective patients?
Hi Marie,
Yes the fat pads descend with age. It is difficult to describe via text how to identify whether a patient is a good candidate for a midface lift, but you can peruse our before-and-after gallery to get an idea about achievable correction with surgery. The face does not have perfect symmetry, and thus both sides of the face will age slightly differently. This is worsened if you are prone to unilateral sun exposure (frequent driving without sunscreen and untinted windows for example).
In order to know if you are a candidate for a midface lift, an in-person consultation and physical examination are required. The consultation is private. Those present include yourself, the consultant who takes your paperwork and discusses your desires, and then the doctor who evaluates you. The consultant will then discuss the surgeon’s availability, costs and the like. Photographs such as those seen on the website are only published with your consent.
Hope that helps!
